Self Portrait of the Artist after Whistler |
About the Artist
Bernie has been studying art all of her life in one form or another from photography to oil and watercolor painting to sculpture and ceramics. She found that Oil painting was her true passion; so long ago dropped all other mediums of artistic expression. During her formal education she wanted a solid foundation in basic fine art. She attended college at a time when conceptual art was being taught when she admired Monet and the Impressionists. She found that she must study from Art History itself by visits to Museums and reading about the artists she admired. She also continues to study art and painting each year by taking workshops from other artists she admires to hone her skills.
Bernie is a fulltime artist except for trips away on travel in Europe with her husband David. Often the images of small European towns and countryside’s are a subject she can't wait to capture on canvas. Also a tour of Art Museums is a must in whatever country they are visiting.
Her approach to creating art is with humility and thanks to God for the time, the passion and the talent to paint. Her attitude in particular toward painting out-of-doors is, "It is a very spiritual thing to paint out in nature, to see the way the light plays on water, the beautiful colors in the shadows and to try in some small, small way to capture the amazing beauty of Gods creation."
